Art Films
The majority of my artistic work is done through a film collective that I am part of called Group 312 Films. Because of the way that the group functions, that means that most of these go from conception to completion in less than one month. In some cases, where I am really happy with the initial film, I will go back and polish the work up and submit them to festivals. But, in most cases, the point is to finish a film quickly and move on. This helps keep a vibrancy of creativity as well as forces me to move on quickly. While I am proud of all of the work here, it does mean that some of the films here may be less "finished" than others but do serve as valuable markers for moments of expression and inspiration.

Djinn
What starts as a simple corporate training video slowly morphs into a sinister tale of espionage, seduction, and intrigue as identities and perspectives shift. This short film was inspired by some of the imagery and literary techniques in Alain Robbe-Grillet's book of the same name. This film also continues my trend of trying to take stock photos and turn them into a narrative by re-contextualizing the imagery.

Glass
Another examination of finding the transcendental sublime in the mundane.

|
Rejected Lines
The story of an artist's obsessive pursuit of perfection, a humorous commentary on the levels of scrutiny that stem from criticism, and a celebration of the transformative power of the creative process. I also think it is apparent that I was reading a lot of Borges at the time I made this.

The Rules of the Game
This is actually based on a real game that I invented with a friend of mine back when there were cafes that were open 24 hours. The idea was to find a way of combine all of the games that we had available to us. The rules actually made for a ridiculously exhausting experience.

Melody (Lost)
A meditation on the ways identity can be shifted through the perspective of others.
|
|
and it shall pass
Another experiment in my water series. There are no effects or digital manipulation in this film. The only trick was flipping the image upside down. To date, this is still one of my favorite films.

The Lathe of Maldoror
Maldoror dreams of a better world. One where every evil malicious, petty, and spiteful thought can become real and where chaos and destruction guide all of our behavior. And, he may be able to make his dreams come true.
This film was featured in Chicago Filmmakers 2012 Short Film Festival |

A visual deconstruction of the "woman in peril" trope of horror films. In this case, the young woman is actually being stalked and attacked by the medium itself.

A narrative of self-examination in the midst of fever-dream logic.

Chatter
Chatter is the noise made by a machine when the gears are not lined up properly. This video attempts to recreate that effect visually with carefully misaligned video and distortion to present the beauty of noise.
